I had to replace some P/S "Leandro" dimmers for a customer. So I went to the parts store and had them look up the part. No where did it say that there was a slave and master setup, I guess I was supposed to have been born knowing this.

So we ordered two "three-way" switches (masters) and I take it to the job. BTW, it does not say anything about slave and master on the package, either.

I take apart the boxes, and then have to explain to the customer that I do not have the right part.

thanks, Pass and Seymour.

edit here is the link to the part:

I agree it should have said you needed a slave unit but the first sentence is an indication that you needed something different.

Enables full dimming control from up to 30 locations using the matching remote dimmers.
It states you need the matching remote dimmer --which is the slave unit, IMO.

P&S appears to be desperately trying to compete with Lutron in the dimmer market. Time will tell how well this works out for them.

I did something similar back when i picked up Leviton Vizia dimmers for my 3-way in the dining room. Was only gonna put a dimmer on one side & the packaging didn't state that you needed two units for proper operation.....tried to make it work for about 30 minutes before i resorted to reading the INSTRUCTIONS......WTH???? Then the wife, in all her comedic splendor remarks "maybe we should call an electrician".......funny gal, that woman of mine. In my own defense, the packaging stated that it could be used in a single pole or multi-location application. I had to go to Leviton's website to get the rest of the install directions for multiple switches. This was back when the Vizia first came into the market. You would think they could put ALL the appropriate info in the package instead of just a little.

I agree there should be more info but I would have figured there were so called master and slave dimmers because all the multi location dimmers I've used operate as such.

Next time you'll know too.

If I have a dimmer in my hand with instructions that say I need matching dimmers I would get the same dimmer, not another one.

I think the instruction sucks.

I agree but the instructions say matching "REMOTE" dimmer. I am not sure I would have caught it without knowing ahead of time. I am use to the word slave dimmer so the remote dimmer may not have caught my eyes.

It is obviously not clear since at least 2 people have had a problem.

I would never buy a P&S over Lutron. Our supplier tried to introduce the P&S dimmers only to see it fall on it's face shortly after.

I put a call into the regional marketing manager of P/S and never heard back from them.

The other ironies of the packaging are that it says "single pole" on the blister pack, when in fact it is both sp and 3-way.

there is a tiny bit of wording on the side that goes into some detail about the setup, but I don't have a blister pack in front of me anymore.

Woudln't it make sense to put the word "MASTER" on the masters, and call them both single pole and 3 way? Also, a bit of print that says, "Remote Part #xyz required"

C'mon, Pass and Seymour. Let's use our marketing heads for more than a hat rack.
