Hi Guys,

I'm curious about the code requirements for a "Red Cross" blood donation building.

The area where one would recline in a chair and donate blood. Would this fall under 517?

Thanks!

Re: Patient Care?

I do not feel a Red Cross building or the specific room stated as being required to be defined as a patient care area in a health care facility. To designate a blood donor as a "patient" and to consider blood donating as being "examined" or "treated" is a stretch. :)

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for your opinion! I tend to agree with you. We have a build-out coming up and this was one of the possible questions that would have to be considered.

Anyone else please?

Re: Patient Care?

In keeping this thread going.....

I have a job coming up. Its a laser hair removal/spa type of place. There are 2 laser rooms. These rooms will have 4 L630R outlets wired with 10/2 HCF each. The other rooms are esthetician rooms. This is where people get facials or hair waxing. The requirements for receptacles are 2 125v 20a dedicated per room. These will be 12/2 HCF. My questions is do these rooms fall under 'patient care' areas.

I am figuring on using HCF for all the 'patient areas' general purpose receptacles and switches, but I am unsure whether this is overkill.

This space is a large cape (house) 2300 sqft. It was an OB/GYN office which was renovated 7 years ago and is 100% wired in romex. Passed inspection!!! Any ideas?

Re: Patient Care?

I peronally cannot call this area a "patient care area" as defined by the NEC. This may be an area where persons are being examined or treated, but its not a portion of a "health care facility" by definition. When specifiing the patient care ara, you have the three choices. This type of service would fall under "general care areas", but still doesn't even meet the description in that definition. :)
