Does anyone happen to know which code requires smoke detector to be installed inside patient rooms? I looked at IBC and IFC and haven't seen anything. I looked at several old design (7,8 years ago) and saw they put smoke detectors inside patient rooms even the room is equiped with sprinkler.

Try the "Authority Having Jurisdiction". Usually code offical or fire marshal, or owner, or architect, or probably the fire alarm vendor selling another extra detector, wiring, input, supervision, power drain, central station monitoring, etc. Basically I am blowing smoke because my NFPA "Life Safey code" and/or NFPA "Natioal Fire Alarm Code" are not in front of me. (I will look them up since NOW I need to find out.) The next question is, if it needs a detector, is it the RIGHT detector.
