If it is on your list of evils at all, you should consider it unethical.

If it isn?t intuitively obvious why it is unethical, it may be difficult to explain ? but I will try.

The NSPE recognizes five Practice Divisions: Private Practice, Industrial, Construction, Education and Government. ?Private Practice? is generally made up of individuals or partnerships rather than ?employees.? In the case cited, working for the same client, an undisclosed relationship between the engineers is considered ?competitive? rather than ?collaborative? and is therefore perceived professionally as a conflict of interest while the work is in progress.

Note: It is not necessarily considered unethical to be ?competitive? - during the bid stage, for example.
