I have a parking structure that has 175W metal halide fixtures pendant mounted from a 12" long 1/2" GRC. These are then mounted thru the 1/2" K.O. hole in the cover of a 4" Octagon box the cover is secured with 8-32 screws to a 4" ocatgon box that is fastened to the poured in place parking structure.

I cannot find anything in 410.16(A)(2002 NEC) which then sends you to 314.23 that would not allow this installation. What are your thoughts.

(For your reference we have just had one of these fixtures blow down due to extreme wind conditions)

314.27(B) but I doubt that your fixtures are over 50 lbs.

Sounds like a swivel cover on the octagon box is a better idea.

Brad,

No, they only weigh about 25 pounds.

Yes, a swivel cover is what I normally see but the contractor installed a flat octagon box cover with a 1/2" K.O. which I cannot find anything that says he cannot do this.
