If the countertop extends more than 6" from the base, you cannot install the receptacle below the countertop. {See 210.52.(C)(5)(Exception)} Does this mean you no longer need to install a receptacle for the peninsula?
That's one that has plagued mankind since the dawn of time.

Okay, since the dawn of electricity.

Okay, since the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.

Frank

I have never seen all sides of a peninsula or island that had an overhang of more than 6" but I can certainly envision one. I guess the island would be illegal and they would have to modify it to comply. That is why I always work with the cabinet guys on design and placement of recep.

Peninsula

I, as a homeowner doing a total kitchen remodel, am about to install peninsula receptacles.

I would advise remodellers-planners to figure this out before they order cabinets. I was lucky enough to realize my need and ordered extra 3" vertical fillers to adjust my cabient layout so that I can install the outlet for a countertop appliance (griddle etc).

I also will have a base-level 110 outlet for the gas range which is in the penninsula.

After re-reading 210.52.(C) {about 100 times} I am pretty sure only 1 receptacle is required. The 24" requirement for receptacles is part of 210.52.(C)(1) Wall Countertop Spaces. Peninsulas are covered under 210.52.(C)(3). This requires at least 1 receptacle (but not more than 1).

Sorry for the confusion Frank. When I asked about the 24" spacing, I was talking about the ones along the wall. I also misread the passage, thinking it was 24" apart, but it's 24" maximum from any point along a wall, so it's 48" between each one.

I think that means you still need it, but it has to be installed somewhere else.
