No problem, very tough thread to answer without getting politics into it.

How very true that is....

Yep and about the same number of their buddies..

Yet gas prices are falling..I believe a little to late for this year, but hopefully it will help us survive the winter season of very little work..

In November you can take care of them, as in Bye Bye. Hopefully in 2010 people will remember it as well and get rid of somemore

We have more work on the books than we have ever had. We do not do houses, only small and medium buildings. We currently are booked up for two years now. After that who knows what will happen. If I can just make it until 2012 then everything will be ok because that is when the world comes to an end, so they say.

Perception of the economy

Perception of the economy

Things have slowed down here also.
I use to be two to three months out but now it's week by week.
I am also a member in Carolina Real Estate Investors Association and most are not buying now.
I have a customer that has had a rehab house finished and for sale since Feb this year, not moving and its in a good area and priced well for quick sell

Show Trials

Show Trials

The economy still stinks here. Been gettin a few calls a week on service work though. As for a good solution to not enough work I think SHOW TRIALS would make the economy start booming again. It would get people motivated to get out there and make amends. Let the public know that our government cares about us and wants to take more of an equity position in our well being. Yup Show trials, Lots of show trials. Think of all those generators needing grounding and temperary services to power up all those media lights. Not to mention the communication wiring. There would be a whole new tech boom just on the new fiber run to the court houses and such.

I think the problem in housing is going to be much worse in areas that boomed. The bust part of the boom/bust cycle is going to be painful.

My mom put an offer down on a house yesterday. The house had been on the market since June at $118,000 without a nibble. The price was lowered to $105,000 last week and three offers showed up this week, including my mom's offer. My mom's offer was accepted last night, about 3 hours after she put it in. She offered $106,000, and had financing already approved, which probably motivated the seller to take her offer over the others.

I know $106,000 does not buy much of a house in some areas, but around here you can get a really decent one for that.

Even around here what housing boom there was has gone bust, but sales of older homes are still doing fairly well. Just not much new construction.

I was actually in the process of buying a home and was advised by several brokers to hold steady for another year due to the volatility of the market and the fluctuations of stock futures.

I am not sure I understand their advise. If you need a place to live, go buy a house. Just don't buy more house than you can actually afford.

I don't think the price of average houses is going to drop a whole lot more. The higher end stuff has a ways to go, and there may be some bargains coming in a year or two when the banks decide to start getting rid of their foreclosed properties.

I have a house to live in currently just wanted to upgrade and achieve the greatest deal possible. Theres a combination of items associated with the advice to abstain for the time being. One happens to be a personal choice of holding off and dissolving some other minor debts to eliminate as much monthly expenses as possible. I believe in strategic positioning when making purchases of that magnitude. I'm looking in the 275 to 325 range and want to optimize all of my options to greater benefit myself. I understand and appreciate their advice but it wasnt the sole decision maker in my process. Theres a method to my madness.:D

Edited for grammar.

Well I'm looking on the bright side...pretty soon I'll be able to afford that vacation home in coastal San Diego county that I've been wanting. :)

Not counting the usual sales calls I'm getting equal calls from paying customers & unemployed electricians. Today I got a call from a carpenter friend who wants to know if I want to buy inventory from an EC going out of business.

Just be carefull what you say about the economy, look what they are doing to, "Joe the Plumber" for speaking out, they are going to teach him a lesson, they are already looking at his taxes and who knows what else.

What's the economy like (locally)?

What's your perception of the economy?

I've been glued to the stock channels and trading stocks, so I've not really been in touch with reality lately. Seems in Wilmington, NC, that business is so/so. It appears to not be improving. How about in your area?
We are Doomed.

Maybe its just me, but Im doing just peachy. I work alone and hire help when I need to. I work out of my home. I started out at the beginning of 2008 and I just cant wait untill everyone stops worrying. If im holding my own now, I cant wait untill we have a bull economy again. Maybe ill hire a mechanic/journey man and make some real money! Either way my wife gets a nice check from me every week and with her salary and bennies from the hospital we are doing so well we figured its now time for a kid.

Im just thankfull I've had some commercial opertunities over the last month or two that's keeping me very very busy, other wise, my phone is getting REALLY dusty,as the calls are dead......I did run a add in the local classifieds trying to drum up other work, we'll see.

I too will be glad when this hits bottom and rebounds a bit....I think the election getting over will help some.
