Maybe in your neck of the woods, but here in Richmond and surrounding counties, Henrico, Hanover, Checterfield, etc., permit fees cover it all, including inspections, all of which are done by city/county employees.
Hehe ... that reminds me of a job we did in your neck of the woods back in 1989 in Petersburg.

We were traveling to Petersburg from Newport News, and decided to stop at a convenience store for gas/refreshments. Two of our company vans stopped there at the same time. A local electrical inspector saw the vans there and inquired what we were doing there, since he never saw us around there before, and he thought we might be doing some work without a permit.....

I politely told him we were passing thru on our way to Petersburg, and we would be obtaining any required permits before starting the job.

Good for that inspector!

Permit

Permit

Here in Asheville, N.C. we have to take the permit out before we start. I didn't do that when they started but now days I usually do the right thing. All our inspectors here are professonals and good to get along with. It has took me years to get in good with them and I don't want to do anything to change that. Semper Fi. Buddy (you can teach an old dog to do more than lay down)

There is no other reason to be anything but professional. We (most of us)prefer to have good relationships with the "guys" as well. I am never afraid to admit fault, after all, it's a big book with a lot of words :( and noone could know it completely.
