Bunch of hacks here. Rewire the complete structure, and both of the structures on each side of it also just to make sure the job is neat. You can leave out the house behind, it's on the next street. In the panel.....

Just opinion wise, what's yours?

I have a fused service to replace including an upgrade. Once I place the new panel, quite a few branches will have to be spliced to meet their new designation. They will be able to enter the panel, yet some will have to be immediately spliced after entering the panel.

My question is how many of you would splice all in the panel or install JB's prior to the panel and run unspliced to their designation in the new panel itself?

This is nothing more than just personal opinion. I can make it look pretty either way. I think I can splice all of them vertictally on the inside of the panel, not immediately horizontally as they enter, they will all be top fed.

Some may say, "Who cares?" I ask, "How would you thread it?"

Most of your older houses have a tattered # 12 to the water heater. Not always but in most cases I would run a new circuit to the water heater.
Sometimes to the range, If you are doing an upgrade, you will have to set a disconnect outside. So you can reduce the size of your load in the existing panel. Use a meterbase combo outside run your ac and water heater from it.
That will eliminate some splices. If their are only five, six or more circuits. Do away with the panel all together and set j-boxes in the crawl space or attic. Put a bigger box outside and run every thing to it. Sheetrock and tape the hole with just the first coat.
Charge accordingly.

Point those wire nuts UP. You wouldn't want any junk that come through those extra holes (that your apprentice knocked out) filling up your wire nuts!
