With the rotary type it is just that simple and as I mentioned you can make one out of a standard three phase motor.

Now you have given me a new "garage project" to try. There is a junk yard not to far from me that has lots of 3 phase motors that no one has use for and they sell them cheap because of the lack of demand.
I am curious how A & B phase shifting doesn't cause an issue on the line side.

Nice link, but I would have loved to have seen his response after he figured out that the service would still be over loaded LOL can't create energy out of thin air Watts is watts no matter what the voltage is.

I did see a saw mill that use a 25 horse diesel to spin up a 100 horse 3 phase motor with a large flywheel on it, and it worked just fine because the flywheel took the load when cutting and the diesel just kept it spinning.
