Anything's better than sitting around at home, watching Oprah. Even doing something that might not work is better than doing nothing, which definitely won't work.

I live in Peoria a small city in the Phoenix metro area. All of my work is in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa. 30 - 60 minute drives (in the HOV) everyday. Can't get any work in my immediate area to save my life. But, it is work.

I prefer The People's Court and Judge Mathis.

That being said, I'm going to install some commercial vinyl tile flooring for a friend this week and I just got a two-floor addition on a house, two services and a couple of minor jobs.
 
I know it's slow out there because today I have 0 inspections and that was after asking the other guys if they needed any help.

Our bosses are starting to worry about the numbers. We're already losing 3 guys, around the first of the year, to layoffs.

Has your jurisdiction adopted the 08 Code? I believe the massive changes to the 08 Code made building a home even more impossible.:mad:
 
No, we're still on the 2005.

What really hurt us was that a bunch of multi unit buildings were being built by 3 or 4 different builders. After building the first few units they found they weren't selling so they shut down the projects, then the bank pulled their financing on a couple of the others, because of the market slump. So right now we have 6, maybe 7, multi building, multi unit jobs that are shut down, and haven't had a new single family home built in over a year.
 
We've adopted the 08 Code on 1/1/08 and so far this year I've only had one residence. Maytag repairmen have more business than our electricians or inspectors.:mad:
 
How is everyones Yellow Pages doin? Mines comming up for review and Im thinkin 1 call a week aint goin to make the nut. Anyone thinking there add is big enough for this "downturn?"

Do you by any chance have a couch up against the wall, mabe adjacent to the phone. And, by any chance, have a closet behind that couch with a switch and a light.The switch might be in (an old gem box) ahh rather, an old work box (metal). If so, do you sit firmly in this couch...WAITING for the phone to ring???? Just a thought.
