Photoluminescent Exit Signs

Has anyone used Photoluminescent Exit Signs instead of electric signs? Do they fall into the definition of exit signs in the international building or life safety codes?

I remember a project where I had to specify one (not by choice - was for a chain store and this was their standard), our building code allowed it. One thing i remember about the project is that I had to place emergency/night light fixtures closer to the exit sign.

I had gone through the post. The Photoluminescent lights are the perfect alternatives for the Electrical lights. They needed to remain on all the time for the sake of safety, but on the other, all that up-time amounted to sky-high electric bills. Photoluminescent technology has changed this landscape permanently, ushering in new era of one-time costs, product longevity, and greatly increased reliability.The price of these when compared with the electrical ones is very affordable and also for the electrical lights a separate circuit has to be maintained all the time, these will overcome that.

According to my view, Photoluminescent exit signs are the alternative to an electrical signs, The installation is quick and simple, It required no electrical work and even now remains maintenance free for decades to come, It drastically reduce the costs typically associated with the traditional electrically powered exit signs.
