I bought one of those cables at alltel for $40 (yeh, ouch) to transfer pics, etc. . .

turns out the ONLY thing it will do is transfer music files. you have to buy another cable for images. This was before I knew my account comes with free server space that I can upload my photos to and download. And, it didn't even come with the software to swap music files. You have to download that. I doesn't sound like a big deal, but I hate buying a product that requires you to go download something to make it work. It took me an hour and a half to download itunes just to make my ipod work.

My phone has a USB port. I got the cable along with a copy of Motorola Phone Tools off eBay for 9 bucks shipped. It seems to work rather well and allows me to use my laptop to access the Internet anywhere I have an Alltel signal.

Cool beans, but not much help for a phone with no USB port.

At the risk of hearing foreheads being slapped, have you tried reading the instructions for the phone?
Why should that be the next option? I don't think that "all else" has yet failed!

If the phone is on the Verizon system, then why don't you just ask one of the hundreds of people standing around ready to give you support? I know they are there, because I have seen them on the TV commercials.

Actually, I have the opposite problem. I seldom use my phone's camera. It is a Palm product, and I use it for my calendar and address/phone list. But if I take a photo with the camera, then after I sync it with the computer, that photo winds up being included in the screen saver's collection of photos. I'll have walked away from the computer for a while, and next time I look at it, I will see that stupid phone-camera photo on my screen.

... I seldom use my phone's camera...

Same here...I almost always have my digital point-and-shoot camera in the car, so I only download phone pics a couple time per year. Not enough use to justify buying the cable and Motorola Phone Tools.

Either way, it's great to be able to instantly document conditions and e-mail them to boss or client, or at least take a pic before tearing something apart to help you remember how to put it back together again.

Now that's funny right there!!

Did I not mention that I have done work for Verizon and the messes we had do deal with from engineers that don't know right from left?

We were installing transfer switches at DMUX and pair gain sites for them. Sometimes the prints were pure comedic gold.
