I have a customer that has used a lighting service company to install motion sensors in their offices. The 2 x 4 troffers are fed with snap wiring similar to re-lok. The contractor hired to install the sensors is picking up power and switch leg for their control device from the existing switch pack in the wiring system. The switch pack does not contain a neutral. The contractor is picking up the neutral for their control device from any nearby 2 x 4 troffer. The contractor is using 12/2 MC and only using the white wire to get the neutral back to the device that controls the switchleg on the motion sensor. The way they are providing the neutral just doesn't seem legal. Any code reference on this question?
