Someone posted a picture a plastic water pipe with a 4 AWG bare copper ground to it.
I and Mike Holt wanted to know is this picture for real?

Re: Picture of plastic water pipe grounding

As far as I know it is real. It was sent to me from the Chief Electrical Inspector of a city I work in. His e-mail to me said that it was found by a City Housing Inspector. I will see if I can find out more of the details.

Re: Picture of plastic water pipe grounding

I just re-read article 250 and I can find nothing to prohibhit using fishing line and duct tape to bond plastic pipe. You should have brought this to the inspectors attention.

Re: Picture of plastic water pipe grounding

I spoke to the Electrical Inspector today and he said he would contact the Housing Inspector to get more details of where this was found.

Jb, it was brought to my attention by NJwirenut at ECN that Monofilament is only good for grounding branch circuits. The main service ground needs to be polypropylene rope to get enough ampacity... I'll remember this. :D
