Good day everyone,
I have a piece of heavy duty equipment, an upender, 2hp at 480v. Then vendor says they can supply any type of connection. I was wondering what is the best connector for this, a pin plug or a twist lock plug. Which is better for this type of application.

In my experience twist locks break quickly if subject to being plugged in, out and moved around.

Pin plugs have shielded pins of stronger material so it is harder to damage them.

Ok so it's a durability issue not a requirement to use one or the other?

I do not know of any code requirement to use pin plugs or twist locks for most applications.

I think there are some twist lock requirements for pendent fixtures and some swimming pool outlets.

I like twist loks because they don't pull apart with a little tug or constant pressure.

Even got them on all my power tools.

Right, wrong, good, bad, it works for me.

In the field, I think it depends pretty much on preference for the application.

I'm looking now and I believe some pin plug/connectors come with some type of locking mechanism too. I believe I'm going to have the disconnect and plug/receptacle be all one piece.
