Can a plastic single gang be set in brick?.....Ive always used metal boxes.....If plastic is OK which would be better?

I think a plastic box is fine. The bigger question is what type of raceway if any? Conductors??? This will help decide the box question.

I have seen many single gang plastic nail-ons (without nails) used in brick walls. They are almost perfectly 1/2 a brick in size.

The nail ons work great turned sideways.Pull nails out and leave some slack,they will put it where it fits best
