my customer wants black floor outlets, and I'm finding black plastic outlets on line. I've always used metal ones. Are plastic ones acceptable ? Looks like they could break. Gordon Elec Supply on line lists a black floor outlet cover. has UL listing. Thank you

The NEC requires that the floor box is listed so IMO if it's a listed product that is plastic then it's code compliant.

Not sure what you were looking at but there are plastic plates for floor outlets but they are usually outlets that are round and in concrete. I guess if they are made from the same material and they are listed then go for it. They will not break.

The brass one where at least double the price on the ones I have in mind

I like this metal one. I use it in brass and nickel.
Good price, too...

Thanks. I found a cheap one here...https://www.gordonelectricsupply.com/p/Arlington-Flbrf101Bl-Blk-Retro-Floor-Bx-Flp/5979111?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlYmw5Ou58AIVGu3jBx1JLgJvEAQYCCABEgKVWfD_BwE

I did a log cabin in all the Arlington box’s like you have posted all work great and it does not stick out, as they are brown on wood floors. It is a thick plate on it so almost impossible to break. I would get the threaded plugs and not the flip lids as I see those are kind of flimsy.
