Plastic weather heads

We only use them if we are running pvc up the side of a house and we are not penetrating the roof, anything above the roofline we use rigid because of strength factor, but personally I likeplastic on PVC and for SE weatherheads

You can view this as good or bad, but heres my personal experience. I installed a 2" PVC riser and plastic weatherhead as part of a service upgrade. Did not penetrate roof. Big storm dropped a tree on the service drop. Yanked the porcelain anchor from the wall! Yanked the riser from its clamps. Whats cool is that it snapped the pipe at the meter base just above the male adapter. POCO got there first and disconnected the drop from the transformer and pole. I just slid the riser and male adapter off the cable. Then I squared the riser and installed a new male adapter and slid all back along the cable to the meter. Lastly, I replace the hangers on the wall and the cable anchor. 15 minutes and done!!!! A steel riser in this case would have destroyed the meter base and possibly the service panel as well!!!!!
