plumbing stack and light switch

Sorry in advance for long explanation. My husband and I are rewiring our circa 1916 house. Most of the old wiring was knob and tube, the entire house operated on 60 amps, we felt a complete upgrade was the way to go. My father-in-law worked his way through college on a journeyman's and was an electrical engineer, so he got us started and we learned as we went. Husband and I put in new everything, the only thing done for us up to now was the wire from the pole to the head. Father-in-law diagnosed with cancer and not in position to be bothered by our questions at this time. We've never had a red tag and certainly don't want to start now.

Is it permissible under NEC 2003, as this is the one our city operates under, to have a light switch placed such that the box is snuggled between a pvc vent stack in the all new pvc drainage system just installed and a stud? :-? I did hunt the forum and found talk about grounding too close to metal drains in showers, nothing regarding this exact issue. Up until now we have simply not happened to have the issue, always avoided having anything electrical share stud space with anything water or gas since it seemed common sense to keep them seperate.

Thanks in advance - hope this question is not too silly for your forum.
