I am newly employed in an industry where it is not uncommon to install pneumatic tubing (nylon) inside rigid conduit along with class 1 and/or class 2 wiring. This seems a little strange to me. Can anyone tell me if this allowed by 2002 code?

I would also appreciate help me with a specific code reference regarding the prohibition or permissibility of this practice. Thanks

Re: Pneumatic Tubing in Electrical Conduit

Code:
300.8 Installation of Conductors with Other Systems.
Raceways or cable trays containing electric conductors shall not
contain any pipe, tube, or equal for steam, water, air, gas,
drainage, or any service other than electrical.

This practice is common in prisons. The question came up before, I asked Mike Holt, he seemed to feel 725.3 allowed it with low voltage conductors, but he was not sure.

Tom,
It does look like 725.3 would permit this installation as 300.8 is not cited in Artcle 725.
