POCO distribution line LED???

Sorry

Tell us how it works.
Charged with load current. High current (fault) trips the circuit and the led lights. This helps you determine if you need to keep riding the main line or make a turn and follow the tap looking for the problem. Automatically resets after a few hours.

Its been on for at least 28hrs. Noticed it 5:30AM yesterday morning.

I asked my buddy if I should report it and he said its part of a smart system and it sends a signal to FPL trouble office.

The ones with lights only stay on for a certain amount of time. I have seen some with a mechanical flag indication that basically latches and then resets upon energizing.

Yeesh! Try looking at those at night during a storm! Hope it is a big flag.

The ones I have experience with are more suited to underground networks.

These SEL indicators have a combination flag and flashing LED. The flag is maybe 3" in diameter and is reflective. It utilizes a 14500 li-ion battery for longer LED run time.

They use something similar here, I believe they're the Horstmann Navigator series. Little spheres that flash red during an outage. Usually they're mounted directly on the primaries (like this) but I've also started seeing them installed on short taps brought down a few feet below the crossarms. (presumably when they don't want to monitor fault current)

They are charged by the current in the line. Green means it is reset.....when a fault occurs above its setpoint, it turns red. It can stay on for several hours before it requires normal line current to recharge. When power is restored, the indicator can be set to reset, or it can stay tripped to indicate a possible intermittent problem. Lots of different versions, some indicating total number of faults, "phone home" reporting, etc. Saves a LOT of time doing line patrol looking for the cause of the outage. The likelihood of an outage not being reported by an irate customer, however, within that period is basically zero. They like to call as soon as the TV quits. Missed 10 minutes to Dancing with the STARS? Big deal! OOPS....hope I didn't offend someone who has no life.:p
