Is there a code section that disallows the use of pointed screws screwed through and into the inside of an electrical enclosure likely puncturing wire insulation?
Thanks

Not really.

There is this that applies to some boxes.

314.23 Supports. Enclosures within the scope of this article
shall be supported in accordance with one or more of
the provisions in 314.23(A) through (H).

(B) Structural Mounting.

(1) Nails and Screws. Nails and screws, where used as a
fastening means, shall be attached by using brackets on the
outside of the enclosure, or they shall pass through the
interior within 6 mm (1?4 in.) of the back or ends of the
enclosure. Screws shall not be permitted to pass through the
box unless exposed threads in the box are protected using
approved means to avoid abrasion of conductor insulation.

Beyond that maybe 110.3(B) or 110.12. I would hate to see these sections used.

Depending on the panel I have drilled and tapped so I can use machine screws but I agree with bob on code issues

314.23(B)(1). Sounds like they want nails and screws to be used on the brackets on the outside of the box or through the last 1/4" of the rear of the box as to leave as much room as possible to not damage the insulation or interfere with a device if installed.
