Polarized Plugs

Does anyone know the year the code started requiring 2 prong 120 v attachment cords to have a polarized plug with the neutral larger than the hot ? I know there are exceptions like power supplies and double insulated tools .

I do not know about the when appliance/tool plugs became mandated, but Google says polarized receptacles began with the 1948 NEC.

I didnt realize it had been that long, I figured it started same time as the 3 wire receptacles , I thought that was late 50's .

Hey , Im your neighbour in Ga. That doesnt seem right, Why require a polarized receptacle and then allow a plug and cord that is not polarized . I think I read in the code where power tools have to have an equip. ground and the exception is for double insulated with a polarized plug. Im sure someone will tell me to find the code !

That allows for no EGC. His question is about non polarized plugs. For instance, like the ones on most wall warts.

Or at least a listing issue. I couldn't find anything in the NEC that covered the use of polarized plugs.

When I replace a plug for a lamp, I like to use a polarized plug. Yet, I find that it is impossible to buy one at Home Depot or Ace. How can they be mandated, but not readily available?
