i keep mine separate.

i run up two bedroom recep circuits off one afci, and the bedroom lights and smokes go on an afci circuit together.

This is exactly how I have been doing it now I used to pull a 3 wire to every bedroom becaause of a local hvac code if the house doesnt have central air. This afci thing messed everything up for me as I used to pull 3 wire ckts all over the house. PITA!!

The majority of my work is commercial/industrial and they are kept separate. In the little resi work that I do, I keep them apart if possible but always run inti the switched outlet for lighting.

how's this?

Lights and outlets on the same circuits, #14 wire, 50 amp breakers.

If that works for you, you can save a lot by using #14 for all appliance and branch circuits. Not sure which goes up in smoke first though.
