I am wiring a filter pump (120V) and heater (heat pump 240V)for an above the ground pool. Not sure if it is > 42 in deep (I will measure it). Pretty sure that the walls are nonmetalic, thus a Storable pool? But there is one wall section that is definitly metal (polished stainless)where the filter lines go through.

What should be done re: bonding the pool? There are steel struts, covered with molded vinyl/plastic holding the walls up. Should that shiny metal wall section be bonded?
The filter motor has a twist lock cord. The heater will be hard wired.

Suggestions, tips? Thank you.

Re: Pool bonding question

Are there any instructions included with it?

I think a key is, what does the UL list this as?

By the NEC, it could be a permanently-installed or storable pool, or even a hot tub. :D

Re: Pool bonding question

The pump has it's disconnect. The heater needs one unless there is a disconnect or breaker in sight within 50'.

If the uprights are steel then they must be bonded. I would hope that all the metal parts were bolted together and they have continuity. If not then you need to bond each individual part.

Re: Pool bonding question

Reviewing 680.26(B)1..If the steel is effectively insulated, it shall not be required to be bonded.

I know that these struts are covered with vinyl. That wall needs to be bonded, not sure where I can place a lug on the wall.

Re: Pool bonding question

Thanks for the input. I will install a disconnect for the heat pump on the wall of the house. Fortunately the pool dealer has a local showroom. I will take a look and see if this steel wall section has continuity with struts. If they are connected I will bond a strut on both sides of the wall. I think that should provide an equipotential grid.
