Two different Electrical Inspectors in different Cities in same State have aloud the electrical contractors to run SER-AL for pool sub panels for two new custom homes.

Sub panels mounted within 5 - 10 feet from the pump rooms on the side of the home and labeled Pool Equipment Panel.

When questioned the Electricians said they asked an were told that they could run SER for a Pool Sub Panel.

Baffled now.

Actually I see nothing in 680.25 that states you cannot use aluminum however for a new panel the egc must be insulated. So, as I read it, aluminum in pvc with an insulated egc (680.25(B)) is permitted but not SER unless it is an existing panel. This is interesting because a copper EGC is required to the pool motor for the branch circuit.
