Pool Light J-boxes

Does the use of the word "directly" in Section 680.24(A) mean that you can have a series of j-boxes not listed as swimming pool j-boxes as long as the last one or the one directly connected the light assembly is listed for the use?

I have seen a few installations that include a box between the transformer enclosure and the listed pool j-box. Is this okay? I have also seen installations that have no j-box at all. They wire directly from the transformer to the light. I have not apporved this practice.

The approved junction box required is to terminate the cord from the prewired fixture at the forming shell. 680.24 (B) allows direct connection to the transformer enclosure, but it must be constructed the same as a junction box that would directly connect to the forming shell. Once a listed swimming pool junction box, one that has brass or corrosion resistant material for continuity of the egc and has one termination for each hub plus one for a #8 bonding jumper, and strain relief for the cord, has been installed, the circuit could have an unlimited number of j-boxes back to the branch-circuit panelboard as long as it follows the rules of 680.23 (F). That section contains the rules for the isolation of the gfc protected conductors, the no joints in the egc, and wiring methods.

I have never seen a transformer enclosure built to those specs.
