Pool question

I have a 1?hp single phase pump that will be operating at 208V. Public pool so this pump will run 24/7 as per Dept. of Health.(no timer) I have 2 plug and play chemical feed pumps operating at 120V. The chem feed pumps need to shut down when the pool pump shuts down. I have looked and can't see any reason I can't use a 3 pole 20A breaker for this. A and B to pump and C to chem feeders. Compliant?

What about a relay or contactor that the 120v chem pumps could run through that was controlled by the main pump power after the overloads or off an aux contact? When the overloads trip the contactor/relay drops out, when reset the contactor/relay comes on.

You would run one leg of the circulating pump through this and when the pump was on the relay would change state to control the chemical pumps.

Or, to take Bob's idea one step futher, a flow switch the pump line would assure shut down even if the motor was running but the pump not pumping.

Not bad for $90 but I think 1?hp at 208V is 11A. Pushing the limits of that. Also not comfortable with quick connect sta-cons at 11A.

Bottom line, I'm going with a BL 320 breaker, if the main pumps thermal opens, they have bigger problems than the chem pumps running.(I think)

Those sta-cons have nothing to do with the 11 amps, you just run an unbroken pump conductor through the hole.

The sta kons would run the chemical pump.'

Well I didn't look hard enough. Under the 08 (still under 05 here so I'm ok) this would be a problem. The 05 680.22(B) has been moved in the 08 to 680.22(C). This is the new (B);

(B) GFCI Protection. Outlets supplying pool pump motors from branch circuits with short-circuit and ground-fault protection rated 15 or 20 amperes, 125 volt or 240 volt, single phase, whether by receptacle or direct connection, shall be provided with ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.

Well I didn't look hard enough. Under the 08 (still under 05 here so I'm ok) this would be a problem. The 05 680.22(B) has been moved in the 08 to 680.22(C). This is the new (B);

You could parallel a 208v RIB relay off of the pool pump motor, feed the RIB NO contacts with seperate 120v for the recpt. that the chem feed motors plug into. RIBs are fairly inexpensive.
