Pool Switch Leg

I do not know if I would publically say this...

How have you determined it is code compliant, and what section number are you referencing for this decision?



Look up the definition of "branch circuit" in Article 100.
Bob stated it as simply as it is needed to be stated. There is a restriction as to the wiring methods. We cannot change it because we think we know what the intent is or because we do not like what it says.

I believe it code compliant because that method was passed by probably 20 different inspectors from 3 different county's and 8 different cities involving over 200 pools in the last 36 years. Also ok'd by the AHJ I worked for the last 2 years. I'm talking about sw leg feed from pool panel to switch and back.

SO your saying nobody was ever wrong before? Believe me, I've done this install also. but after tonight, I will never do it again. No biggie.

OK using that line of reasoning the legal speed limit in my area must be 75 MPH not 65 like the sign says. :wink:

What has been allowed has nothing to do with what the code actually requires. I also do not know when that section of code was last re-written, perhaps it used to be OK. :smile:

Contactor?

The switch leg going to the contactor is still the branch circuit wiring.

The control side of the contactor would not be.

:grin: I've been trying to get the CMPs to add such a relevant section for 40+ years now.
I figure under NEC 90.2(B) "any installation method used for ___ years shall be grandfathered in as Coce compliant"

By supply side in this instance they are talking about the wiring method before the enclosure and juntion boxes connected to conduits run to wet-niche and no-niche luminaires.

It would not include the feeder. Section 680.23(F) is titled Branch Circuit Wiring.
