Portable generator connection options

What are you guys using for portable generator hook ups? I like the Interlock kit but on homes with a outside main and no space in the meter combo they won't work. I know I can get a transfer switch but is there any other more affordable options out there?

Yeah, but only as a joke but some people have no sense of humor in here. I understand perfectly how dangerous it is.
Unless you use an MTS or one of those transfer panels I don't know what else you could do.

One of the POCO's in our area sell an inlet that goes behind the meter.
It makes for a simple clean install if the customer is in their area.
Of course the customers not in their area we generally need to install a small generator sub panel, if the main is outside.

Might see if your POCO has a similar device.
