So I’m putting in a transfer switch for my parents home, a 50 amp manual switch just to run the essentials during an outage. My dad has a hard time getting up and down the stairs to the basement, think more of a celler basement, low ceiling and uneven floor. My question is would it be ok to “extend” the wires via conduit to the top of the stairs, so he could just open the door and turn the switch from there? Roughly 25’ from panel. Thanks in advance for any help!

As long as the normal power conductors are on the load side of the service OCPD, they would be feeders and not subject to any length restrictions. If the normal power conductors are service conductors, that would be a violation.
