Potential liability on a job I looked at

I think this restaurant owner is looking for someone to rig this so I ask this question over the phone to save time. If they want it done safe and legal then the job is worth looking at and if they want it rigged then they need to go elsewhere. You can save a half day of wasted time by not being afraid to ask the right questions.

OP has stated via PM he is going back to look at this. This was also my first thought.

Tell the guy the truth. Be upfront that you are unwilling to do something that is not to code and that if he wants it done by you it will have to be done to code.

Don't waste a lot of time with him if he does not want it done to code to save money.

Just to update I provided a proposal to do the work, and let him know the only way I will do the work is to replace the single phase panel with a 3-phase panel. Hopefully it works out, just more money for me, otherwise he'll find someone to rig it up cheap, we'll see.

I would have looked at the name plate on the AC and determined if the added mixer load would be an issue. Then, depending on other conditions, I might have changed the AC disco to a sub panel and fed the AC and mixer. I probably wouldn't be concerned about the undersized high leg.
