I had a customer request to install a 3 phase outlet for an outdoor refridgerated truck. The truck runs on diesel but also a corded power outlet for AC back up power. I never verified if the truck was able to accept AC power because I assumed that would have already been done. I was just given project to get outlet and cord to area for connection. Well low and behold the truck wasnt capable of AC power connection the outlet was on truck but didnt go to anything. I wasnt told to verify if the refridgerated truck could accept the power I was told to provide the AC power. I feel as if they are trying to put this on me for not checking. I dont know anything about A/c and especiallt A/c on traillor trucks. I just provided what customer asked. The truck did provide a amperage and voltage to provide to truck but the A/c didnt go anywhere once attached to truck. maybe it was my fault but I kinda feel like it wasnt.....feeling defeated right now! Just needed a place to vent.

Unless they send me specs/manual or the equipment is on site, I tell them I can't guarantee anything past my install to the outlet. Now if they want me to run wiring or add outlet to equipment, that is extra. But since OP says nothing was there, I would collect for what you were asked to do and tell them the rest is on them.

You're right. You accomplished that for which you were hired.

Tell them you'll be happy to give them a price for any additional work required.

Not even your job to touch the truck. If a customer asked you to install a receptacle for a refrigerator and when the customer plugged the refrigerator in, it didn't work is that your fault? Sure, you would verify that voltage was present at the receptacle, but after that tell them to have a nice day, pay me and call an appliance repair guy.

They probably didn’t spring for the remote power option, it would require a transferswitch, most likely factory installed. They probably put the inlet in as a default just to cover the hole. Not your fault at all.
