That is an awful question. The answer is that you shouldn't expect anything or assume anything. First you should check for the mere presence of voltage with a non-contact tester. Then, if it's live, put on the appprpriate PPE and check the voltage with a Wiggy.

Re: Pre Hire Test

Whoa, I guess you're right George. Must have been a Freudian slip.

I've been shocked way too many times and every time it could have been avoided if only I had followed the rules. :D

Re: Pre Hire Test

Troubleshooting is the only real reason for working on energized circuits, and I was taught that only then by a JW.

As far as Rich R's questions that where left unanswered.

Question #6 (A) 2/0
Question #8 (A) Replace the Bulb, 'cause sometimes HPS bulbs do that. (But I would check the photo eye first.)

On Santacruzes offset question. The multiplier for a 45* is 1.41 so the technical answer would be 14.1" but I would mark my conduit just short of 14 1/8" a part.

For dnbob's first question. I only put 2 #12 coppers conductors under a yellow. I don't put any #12 aluminum under a yellow.

dnbob's 2nd question: 5" on my benders

3rd: I would expect 277/480, but I have been in a lot of older buildings where color doesnt mean jack. Heck, I've seen green & gray as ungrounded colors.

4th: What makes a box a receptacle box, other than maybe the height? I once worked with an older JW who called ever device boxes a "switch box". So, what I am saying is, if it was counter top high, it could even be for a 3way.

Interesting story, e57. But I would caution anyone against using hidden cameras as part of a test, or part of your normal business security practices, unless you know how to do it legally. I don't know the legalities of it all, but I suspect there is a requirement related to posting a notice to the effect that you have security cameras in use.
There is really no problem with doing it if noone finds out.

Ya, video taped on the top rung of the ladder. :D

Make shure to use a short ladder, and include a checkbox on the app. "Do you know the proper way to to use a ladder." :D

Re: Pre Hire Test

For shops with trucks that read, "We're Hiring", in permanant paint, substitute "F" for "H".

The less you bring to the table the more you play with office spaces and work places, which make target-each-other practice the art of variable labor that knows its' expendable.

Re: Pre Hire Test

On the job, back in the day. This JW hands me a sample cup and sez to me, "here, pianist". Sez I, "huh"? He goes, "my tool buddy failed the pre-hire, and your one of dem Christians what don't-do-notin', so help him out".

Re: Pre Hire Test

Drug testing solves nothing if it's only done once before hiring.Would rather see it happen without warning.Any users will clean themself up before the prehire test.

Then they had better get an early start. The use of some illegal drugs can be detected a month or more afterwards.
