What is your preferred way to fasten wood to masonry? For example setting panels in basements. Anyone use the Ramset cobra??
My preference would be a machine screw anchor set with a hollow wall setting tool. With the hollow wall setting tool, it doesn't matter if you are putting the anchor in a web, or in the hollow part of the block.TapCons are my standard go-to.
Here in California, everything is solidly grouted, so we have a lot of options. Wedge anchors, pin anchors, TapCons, etc.
I don’t know what I would do if I had to anchor to hollow block. Completely foreign concept to me. Prolly still try a TapCon
We call them AJs in my part of the country. My preference would be a machine screw anchor set with a hollow wall setting tool. With the hollow wall setting tool, it doesn't matter if you are putting the anchor in a web, or in the hollow part of the block.
Downside is if they finish the area and need r21 insulationI just fasten the panel straight to the wall with tapcons.
Yes, AJs, for the name of one of the original manufacturers of the machine screw lead anchors (not sure if they are lead any more)We call them AJs in my part of the country.
Once you buy/steal the tool the anchors are dirt cheap!

I guess it's better than calling them Johnsons. Think of the sentences you could make up.Many moons ago (1980-ish), in my plant Engineering days, our shop guys always called them “Ackermans”. I now finally know where that came from!
