good idea about the basketballs. I actually dont use hole saws for cutting out the holes. But I just may do that. I usually just use drywall saw. I wish there were something that could catch the dust from that, other than holding a trash can underneath with my other hand while cutting.

Poke the blade through the bottom of a paper bag.

Tony if you can get 225 per can then I'd say that sounds like a hell of a price. Seems like you should make out like a bandit at that rate.

I'd be inclined to agree, except we're talking about a plaster ceiling. That's a bit different from the standard drywall ceiling in a newer home. Use a roto-zip or a grit hole saw or whatever else, you're still going to make a mess and you're still going to have to patch. By the time you're done you'll be feeling like you earned every cent of that 225 per can.

Im sure that labor rates are much cheapier here but $75/hole here is the going rate among EC's. So 12X75 plus another 75 per hole for switches. We always tell customers that's only a estimate as we dont quote attic crawls, strickly T/M...................

Most people run backwards when they start adding it up. All they know is those things sell at Lowes for $8-10.......

These are professional lights, we don't use Lowes fixtures, these will last you a lot longer.

and at the pool supply house, a sta-rite skimmer is about $35 my cost.

installed, $1,800...:D and that's during a replaster, retile, recoping... etc.
stand alone? add another $1k

anyone who's ever put one in, and had to warranty it for leaks, just nods
at the price, and doesn't flinch. anyone who's never chipped one out and
redone it, has a cow.

moooo.....:D

That new, or doing remod there Mule?

remodel can's ....we do most of it from the ladder, and a fishin stick....then go up and appropiately staple and pull switch legs, AND that's tie'ing into a existing feed. If a new HR is needed that's extra:D

These are professional lights, we don't use Lowes fixtures, these will last you a lot longer.

We use resi Halo's H7T, same can at Lowes or CED.......SHew.. we priced some 8inch cans the other day for a commercial job, BIG difference in price....

Thought there might be a bit of difference. Out here, lots of times Juan, or Julio, bid it so cheap, all one can hope for is that they hurry up and go broke, so that an honest contractor can make a nickel, at a reasonable rate..

Wow I would not be used to that Juan and Julio thing for sure..

as for the difference, Did I miss something, 1st post was asking about resi cans?? Are Halo's not used in your area?

We're pretty lucky here, all local native folks around here doing electrical work, and I'll say most of the EC's are a pretty good honest bunch....well most....they did put one in jail a while back.....

Halo's and Juno's for resi cans. Since the border has a hole in it, so does the local economy. Vegas is fair, but nothing going on out in the country :(. Wire disappears in a hurry if left alone out here.

Thank you sir. Thats excatcly my point. No one seems to take into account that the walls are plaster and the 225 per can also needs to pay for the holes im gonna inevitably have to make. This little job (there are a few other smaller things) can take all day.

It would definitely take me all day at the very least working by myself and doing the patching for sure. Maybe have to come back again the next day to finish patching.

I hate lath and plaster. And that mesh, yuk.....cant imagine how much that would multiply the labor unit figure. Then if chunk of it falls out, and the trim wont cover...... I think the hole saw that was displayed earlier is the ONLY logical approach for this job......goggles, dust mask, it will be a mess for sure....

its funny you said that I just got off the phone with the guy and I told him the same thing. Im hopping my comming back for the "sanding" will get me the job, not to mention the free scone (right above the switch box). At 225 a can little freebees usually get me the deal.
