What is the correct way to enter a exterior trough on top using PVC conduit. Would a sealing locknut on top side on the connector be code compliant or would you use a Meyers hub?

Thanks jumper.............so what do you use?

Learn something new every day.
Learn something new "here" every day.

I've sent off the following to UL to see what they say.

2012 White Book index for "Hubs" refers to DWTT which in turn states "Fittings with internal female threads (e.g., hubs, conduit bodies, couplings) have only been investigated for use with threaded rigid conduit." and "All male threaded fittings and nipples have only been investigated for use with locknuts."

So does this mean I am violating the listing of the hub by threading a PVC TA into it and violating the listing of the PVC TA by threading it into the hub rather than holding it with a lock nut?

I believe that is technically correct. I've always used a Myers hub though in this case and never been questioned about it. I think an inspector could make it an issue. Could be because of my age, as in the earlier years of my career, we didn't have sealing rings available. Of course we could have gone a bought an "O" ring but that would not be technically correct either.

I have always been told mulitple times that a meyers hub is not UL listed and a sealing lock nut is not either so what is the correct way?

How about a female adapter on the PVC and a GRC nipple into a myers hub?

Sounds like a wasted effort but should be much closer to acceptable according to listings.

You would figure someone (manufacturer) would have picked up on this and would manufacture the proper fitting.

I mean, how often does one enter an enclosure with rmc or imc compared to entering it with "straight threads" from emt, pvc, seu/ser connectors.

Maybe I found my niche and will get into manufacturing this type of hub....................probably not.

Thanks for all the info.

I think it is more of the fact there has been no demand because very few inspectors are making us change these products if they are misused. Kind of like the raintight emt fittings that used to not really be raintight. Which BTW the new raintight ones are still a joke.

The reply from UL was "Yes."

I'd go kicking and screaming before I did that.

If I couldn't do a myers hub, I'd use a sealing washer on an MA that had enough threads left to put a plastic bushing on.

Sealing washer? I actually never used one before. Sealing locknuts yes but washers no. Do you have a link?

I use them sometimes also - I save all the washers from liquidtight fittings or raintight EMT fittings or anything else that may have one yet it was installed in a location where it was not needed. Before anyone goes asking why I would take that washer away from its original fitting - what good does it do installed in the bottom of a 3R enclosure, or out of the lower side concentric / eccentric KO that is larger than the fitting? I have hundreds of these washers in 1/2 and 3/4 sizes.
