I have an existing building that we're upgrading the service.
I have an 800A service switch feeding house loads which won't need surge protection according to the 2020 NEC.
NEC 230.67 requires services supplying dwelling units to have surge protective device.
I have am specifying a 2000A switchboard with 2 sections. This switchboard is feeding residential meter banks.
Section 1: 2000A service switch
Section 2: (4) 800A switches (feeds meter banks)
Since this switchboard feeds residential meter banks, where is the surge protection typically connect?
The switchboard is un-metered so does that mean I cannot connect it there or do I need a separate meter?
