Proper use of FPL vs. CPL wiring:

At work I find the security folks using FPL to provide 24 volt power for Video Surveillance cameras and other non life safety systems. I believe this is a violation. FPL should only be used for Fire Alarm circuits and CPL is for security systems. The techs say they have been practicing this for 15 years. The Red is suppose to make FIRE circuit easy to identify. If everyone uses it you can not distinguish between the different types of systems/circuits vs. life safety/non-life safety.

My question is can you use FPL on any Class2 power supplies? or is it limited to FA systems?

Thanks

When I did v/d/v work, we only ran red cat5e for critical circuits, like the FAP and elevator phone. Tho I dont know of a code requiring that, I also dont know of a code preventing using red jacketed cable for other than FA.

Cables cannot usually be identified by their size/jacket color, and in a shtf situation, the fireman's axe is not going to care if it hits red or white or black cable. FA might be required to use red, never seen FA wiring in any other color, tho I dont know of an exclusion to use it for other purposes (not saying it doesnt exist).
