The main electrical run for the outlet came out just below where it needed to be (where the actual microwave goes). It needs to be in the cabinet above the microwave.

The cabinets and drywall were already installed, so the cabinet installers smashed in the drywall by hand, and fed the Romex cable back up higher into the wall to the outlet location in the upper cabinet (above the microwave).

They then covered it up with some mud so the wire won’t touch the microwave when it’s mounted. Not sure if the Romex being in the mud is up to code or not?

Everything has been working properly for a few months…but does that seem like the correct fix for when wiring comes out of the drywall too low and the cabinets were already installed? I wanted something a bit cleaner, but they said pushing in the drywall kept the wire from pinching and they were able to feed it up about 1.5 feet to the outlet without an issue.

They didn’t cover it with mud until I asked because I didn’t want the wire touching against the back of the microwave.

The electrician made all the connections when they came in which makes me “assume” it’s safe. But I wanted to ask opinions on this practice if possible to ensure the remedy suffices.

All we can offer is that you need to trust the electrician.
