Am I being an old woman for asking to have the openings protected from texture & paint? I know in the past I've seen the outletboxs/wiring coated with texture/paint w/o problems. Is it a stretch trying to interpret 110-12 C as to making them cover the openings? Any referances for support would helpful, or am I in left field? I just want it right. Thanks

Re: Protection of Recept/Data Boxs

Personally I don't see a problem with the inside of a box or the insulation having paint on the surfaces.

We actually paint boxes (inside and out) in many installations, and as far as the insulation is concerned, if the paint is not some special self etching type of paint that may have some real deteriorating effects on the insulation, can there really be a problem?

Yes you are being an old woman. Whatever that means.

If you don't want paint in the boxes cover them up.

The NEC is to ensure that you do things, not "them."

It is a stretch to use this section to mean that boxes can't be painted. They can't be damaged by paint, so it doesn't apply.

If they don't tape them, and you're concerned, tape them. That would be all on you. :)
