proximity to propane tank

Since there is no natural gas in this area, the question rarely comes up, however more homeowners are opting for propane powered residential equipment which puts a rather large fuel tank near the building. I can't find anything in the NEC that regulates proximity of service equipment to these tanks unless Table 515.3 would apply here and the overpressure relief valve would be considered a "vent"?

Charlie: I think this would be an LP gas, being propane. With that in mind I beleive the NFPA 58 applies. I don't have it, so I can't help beyond that.

I remember that the NFPA 58 talks about clearances from combustibles. Typically, you will see a 1,000 gallon or 2,500 gallon tank for a residence. If I'm not mistaken, these tanks must be 10(?) feet from a building or any combustible, including vegatation. With that in mind, if your panel is located on the structure you should be ok

Just spoke w/ the local fire marshal, he quoted NFPA 58 but told me 20 feet from tank to service equipment.(might be a local thing too)

Watch the clearance where it goes into the house. The regulator lets gas escape.Been a while since i was involved in one of these.Think it was 10 feet from regulator to the electric panel or meter.
