Pumps and Motor Codes

We have a fresh water pumping station with 5HP pumps, Code L. Code L as it turns out has an inrush of 9.5 time FLA and given that this is a single phase application, this is driving the generator size to be a minimum of 30kW. I'm wondering if Code L is pretty standard fare for such applications or if this is an unusual application.

Code L means 9.0-9.9 kVA/HP, averaged at 9.5 kVA/HP, not 9.5X FLA. That usually equates to LRC of aprox. 500-600% FLC
