Which is why I recommended using the correct hanger that is made to work on the angle.

To each their own but we would hang a 200 pound load without engineering involvement.

Exactly, 200 lbs spanning 2 purlins is not much weight. I said use 3 purlins to be safe

200# is generally our limit before we ask for an SE. This is after consulting with our plan check engineers who are SE themselves. You have to have a limit even if some cases it may seem a little arbritary.

Anyway if you hang that 200# xfmr from a 28ga steel framed we would ask for an SE, but not from a tilt up concrete wall.

What if the xfmr is only 175#, but there is a whole bunch of mechanical equipment nearby? We have to use our judgment in the field. We do our best not to get the SE for every little thing.

That's true:happyyes:and in tornado country it just takes out the whole building so not as much of an issue.

:D

Honestly the thought of living near a major active fault line scares me. I doubt I would sleep much.

We had a small earth quake here not to long ago, it was so small I doubt you would even have noticed, but I was laying in bed and realized what it was right away, I was starting to get up and get the family out when it was over. It was freaky to feel the house move, even a little bit.

I would think there would be snow load issues in your area.

For sure. And when we do PV installs of course engineers are involved.

It will get your attention, that's for sure. :jawdrop:It does get pretty bad though when they have to be big ones to notice. On Facebook every once in awhile someone will post that they felt one and I'm the one going, nooooo didn't feel a thing.

After the '94 quake, we didn't even take notice to any after shock if it was less that a 3.0, and a 3.0 is a pretty good one if you haven't had one in awhile.

What's funny is what scares you depending on where you live. We had people here move after the quake and go to tornado alley in the Midwest. Most said the same thing, "I want to know that it's coming." See, I don't want to know that there's a chance my house is going to get completely destroyed in a couple of hours.:happyno:
