These cover the water vs. electricity fairly well, as it relates to solar. I encourage folks to share these, I know first hand that many departments are still unaware of the resources available to them - leaving them to guess.

I think that part of it is the time for all of the required training, and not having enough time to cover things like this, especially for a volunteer department. It is difficult enough just to get the training for the required certifications done. In my area, with very few solar installations, I don't think you will see much training on the issue, even with the paid departments.

I often told prospective members, that if you want to do it correctly, you will hot have time for any hobbies....the commitment to be a firefighter will take all most all of your free time....and the requirements have increased since I left the fire service in 2010.
