A question I’ve always wondered and perhaps a stupid question. Why does a PVC box have a grounding screw?

Haven't seen one with a ground bonding screw. There is no need for one, box is nonconductive. If you were to put on a metal cover however, the cover would need to be bonded.

It has been a while since I've seen one. I think they had a brass insert that the device attached to and it was prior to the grounding screws on the devices.

I will have to take a picture when I use one again. They are on all the PVC junction boxes I use and FS boxes. I never understood why though. I was just curious if anyone knew why.

Maybe to bond the blank cover if you use metal? Must be a local thing that’s being enforced, they don’t sell them down here because the inspectors are not enforcing it.

See it done quite a bit. Metal is about half the price.

I believe that allowed bonding of the metal weather resistant receptacle cover.

The ones I've seen and used in past, the cover has a wire attached to a grommet pressed on at the receptacle cover screw hole. It's been a while since seeing or using one though.

I believe that is a requirement for the Canadian Electrical Code, but not 100% sure.
