T300.5 Column 4 Resi branch circuit, 120V, max ocp 20A, 12inches cover.
T680.10 PVC to pool 18" cover.
I contend that 680.10 only applies to inside 5' zone which is due to space constraints. References back to T300.5

Am I interpretting correctly or not?

Thanks!

Column 4 also requires GFCI protection...
Otherwise I agree with the rest of your post.

Forgot to add the GFCI protection.

So what we have is 1/2" PVC buried to a 20Amp, 120Volt twist lok receptacle, GFCI protected, OCP 20A, and PVC 13" deep. Receptacle is 5'6" away from pool.

I say legal. Inspector says nope. He'll call me tomorrow after he reads Codebook tonite.

Thanks.

I use to have this argument with inspectors all the time and I won every time. you are correct. Make him read 680.10 not quote Table 680.10 if you have to read it to him. I don't do pools much any more but use to spend my whole summer 8- 10 hrs a day 6 days a week for 20 + weeks wiring pools.

I would check with the AHJ first. Many AHJ require 18" PVC. Maybe they are wrong, but why go through the hassle? I always rent a trencher so the extra 6 inches doesn't bother me.

Because, this is an opportunity to educate each other! Once you take the opportunity and challenge the inspector (in a non-threatening way), you and he(she) will gain mutual respect. The inspector knows you read the code book and understand the rules. You learn what the inspector's talents are also.

In this case, the state inspector sided with me and called the local guy and told him I was right. If I was wrong, I would have ate my humble pie and moved on, wiser for the wear.

Keep one thing in mind: Pick the "fights" you know you can win! Sometimes it is cheaper: Maybe they are wrong, but why go through the hassle?
