Pvc conduit

Roger,

I have no disagreement that PVC mounted, on what I assume is an exterior, pole would be most likely subject to physical damage and prolly require schedule 80 if PVC is used.

I am just perplexed why UL put the wording in the White book.

Poles would just be a single scenario. Seems strange that a single application that really is an AHJ call is included at all.

I am by no means asking you why it’s there but rather if you find it odd also

Those first few feet above grade is what typically is subject to the most physical damage.

otherwise what is subject to physical damage is subject to a very wide interpretation.

If you run 25 feet up a pole, what is going to cause physical damage at the upper end other then if someone in a bucket truck accidentally hits it swinging the boom, or something similar - which isn't normally a frequent threat like yard maintenance equipment may be near grade level.

Too many like to over think this. Sch 80 will take more abuse then sch 40 but isn't bullet proof either, if the physical damage threat is great enough one may need to use RMC - but even it can be damaged just takes more force.
