PVC slip joints

I have a underground service with 42 inches of exposed conduit from finish grade to bottom of meter can. I have less than 5 feet to the 90. Do I need to install a slip joint? The Inspector here says I do I say I don't.

Experience has shown that you don't due to expension and contraction of that length of PVC, but you certainly do for settling of the conduit and the associated ell. Often, I've seen the meter can is ripped right off the wall in time.

The NEC requires you to make provisions for ground movement as outlined in 300.5 (J)
Typically this is done with an expansion fitting.

their answer is right. always,always don't tick the inspector off. you will have a much harder time if you do. they can an will find other things for you & you will very very?seldom win. the nec says it is up the?ADJ.(authority having jurisdiction). but in your case he is right. give them the respect that they want and deserve.
